Dexamethasone can not be used! The use of dexamethasone in pig farms follows five principles!

Dexamethasone is an adrenal corticosteroid. Dexamethasone has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-shock and anti-toxic effects. It is mainly used as a first-aid medicine for critical illness. Although it is a common medicine, it must be used in principle. Otherwise, it cannot be used. Treating the disease has adverse consequences.

  1. Can not be used in early pregnancy, late stage and newborn young animals

Dexamethasone can reach the placenta through the blood-fetal barrier, severely inhibit the growth and development of the embryo, leading to fetal malformation, and even become a stillborn mummified fetus. In addition, it also has the effect of stimulating uterine smooth muscle, which can cause the uterus to contract, leading to miscarriage. There are cases for sows induced labor, the adverse consequences of which lead to increased retention of placenta, delayed lactation, delayed recovery of uterine function and other symptoms. Dexamethasone can also inhibit the growth and development of young animals, leading to metabolic disorders and indigestion, reducing the absorption of calcium in the intestine, increasing excretion in the kidneys, and prohibiting use in osteoporosis.

  2. General infectious diseases should not be used

Dexamethasone can only reduce or inhibit inflammation, and it can not cure the symptoms, and has a strong immunosuppressive effect. Therefore, it should only be considered when the serious inflammation of infectious diseases may endanger the life of pigs or the future production capacity.

  3. Can not be stopped suddenly after long-term use

If you need to take this medicine for more than 1 week, if you need to stop or reduce the amount, you should gradually adopt step-by-step reduction and gradually stop the medicine. You can also use the next-day treatment. If the medicine is suddenly stopped, the original disease will recur or aggravate.

  4. Can not be used for the inoculation period of the vaccine

Dexamethasone can cause protein dysbiosis and inhibit protein synthesis, which indirectly affects antibody production, affects vaccine immune titer, and causes antibody levels to decrease, thereby affecting immune effects and even causing immune failure.

  5. Cannot be used for diseases caused by viruses, molds, fungi

The longer the dexamethasone is used, the more likely it is to spread the infection and increase the chances of secondary and concurrent disease, especially complex recessive infections. Therefore, the minimum effective dose should be used as much as possible. Once the condition is controlled, the dose should be gradually reduced or stopped.

Incompatibility: calcium chloride, sodium sulfadiazine, oxytetracycline hydrochloride, chlorpromazine, tetracycline hydrochloride, procaine hydrochloride and the like in combination with dexamethasone easily lead to precipitation or turbidity, thus causing drug failure, and compatibility should be avoided.
